Hi! It varies a lot by teacher and age. Elementary age kids learn about the water cycle, food webs, and recycling. For K-2, I recommend starting with a food chain, then 3-6 can handle a more complex food web. Maybe add in abiotic factors. Older than that, 7-9 should be ready to talk about pollution/habitat loss/invasive species/etc. and how those impact the food web environment. 10-12 you can go more in depth with the 7-9 topics, maybe focus on one and relate it to your local area/current events

You might be able to email the teacher and ask what background information they’re being prepped with before your lesson. If they just finished a unit on renewable energy, for example, you can work that into your lesson and give the kids an opportunity to answer questions and show you what they know. They love showing off what they’ve already learned, especially to an “expert” like you 😁
