As a landscaper, I Hate when people want us to take their leaves off their lawn cus it makes it “Look Bad”.. THATS LIKE THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF “FALL” AND “AUTUMN”
Landscaping for me was just like “oh you want us to make this healthy natural space look like suburban Houston? Yeah we can do that. We also definitely won’t fuck up your underground cables and leave before anyone finds out 😅”

Ayo im kinda ignorant on this subject, is it best practice to leave the leaves on the grass?

as a soil ecologist: it’s like if full rotisserie chickens started falling from the sky, and then a giant came along and started scooping them up in to plastic bags and throwing them on the curb

the only time leaves should be removed is from sidewalks— they get slippery, but other than that, i’m tired of seeing no leaves on grass/soil :(

#3 made me giggle but the leaves are good for the soil as they break down, you can remove some of them if you want to “beautify” the space

the leaves can also be hiding places for some critters

I put them in the plant beds so they have a blanket in the winter

If you leave too much leaves on the grass they block air from reaching the grass this can lead to fungus and mold and then you will have patches of dead grass but a light layer of leaves can help some plants in the winter

very good yes, but also it’s yummy food for the microbes and fungi. they help with turning those dead leaves in to plant available nutrients 😁
