honestly, golf courses can be a breath of fresh air in big cities and concrete everything. Obv I wish it was more native plants and less pesticides, but that hopefully will slowly but surely get there. Best way forward is to encourage your local courses to conserve water, minimize pollution, reduce pesticide use where possible, use native plants (even some greens/rough can be planted using NATIVE grasses!), and setting aside spots/areas for wildlife and habitat creation are all awesome.
i feel this is just a call to pay attention to more than just AI data centers, as that has become a huge part of the conversation lately. one is not more important than the other, which is why i feel now that people have had their passion sparked, they should also focus some of their attention to the other incredibly widespread issues
Which I maybe why people paying attention to and being passionate against AI is a good thing, it can help bring awareness to environmentalism and hopefully grow into a movement for people to be more aware of other things we’re doing that hurting the planet and actively wanting to make changes!!
I say this as someone who has family working at golf courses. many of the ppl making decisions at golf courses don’t realize that there’s cheap/no-cost ways to be environmentally sustainable AND sustain the enjoyment of members and players! Also idk much abt this, but I believe Audubon has at least 1 program that golf courses can pledge/register/get certified with!! I think the one I’m thinking of is the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program
