It’s actually a different chemical from opium but it does give a gentle calming effect. It can be used as a sleep aid :)

I believe all parts of the plant are edible but the root is more potent! Leaves and petals can be added to salads. But test a small amount first to make sure you react ok, and check medication/supplement interactions because of CA poppy’s medicinal effects

There are likely many books on/about it and I believe you can study online and get a certificate for herbalism!
