my dad and brother are both software engineers and they’re having a spirited discussion about how AI is the future and they’re so excited for it to get more powerful and i’m just genuinely so scared that it’s going to destroy the environment i’m sad :(

I think the cat is out of the bag on AI as much as I don’t like it. No ones going to stop it and the developing world is going to embrace it fully. We should work on trying to make it more efficient and less water intensive and better for the environment

i actually argued with them about it a few days ago but they’re both incredibly stubborn and think that the future benefits of ai outweigh the current downsides. it’s incredibly frustrating
