I literally cried the moment I found out the reason why quite a lot of moth species die after two weeks is cuz they starve to death due to emerging without mouths. One of the main families that serves as an example is the Saturnidae family.
I caught a caterpillar cecropia moth one fall and waited all winter for it to emerge. It was really cool even though I knew it would die in 2 weeks like you said.

I think they live long enough to reproduce and that is it. That’s one of the reasons they can sometimes not have mouths bc their species only depends on reproduction (which I suppose is true for all of us but it just takes longer for us to be able to reproduce/carry on our genes)

less energy used for developing & maintaining a digestive system = more energy for getting freaky 👅
