it’s not the norm on the engineering side of things, but we usually don’t have research outside class and are already working full-time in the field while attending grad school to get paid more working full-time in the field. it was just meant to be a hee hee haw haw joke.

The vast majority of full time grad students in engineering that I know are in research and getting stipends… maybe your school just isn’t a research school?
