I think it depends on the animal. Lots of people call coyotes invasive when they’re simply naturalized to new areas and fulfilled the niches created when humans killed the other predators that used to be naturally found in that area.

no 😭 i just had a conversation with an environmental science major who was of the opinion that lionfish and other invasives should just be allowed to exist and reproduce as they please bc "it's not their fault" that they ended up in new areas

it's less giving up and more a belief in the "inherent ability" of ecosystems to self stabilize and form new niches, and yeah sometimes an ecosystem is cooked and that's the best we can do. i don't totally agree though

i can understand with like.... coyotes in florida, since they're filling the niche that red wolves used to fill, but the long term goal should always be using paleo ecological data to restore an ecosystem to its healthiest and most resilient possible state imo

coyotes are my biggest exception, they genuinely only exist in most areas bc of human development and eradication of other small carnivorans
