It irritates me so much when people misuse the terms wild, feral and domesticated. No Susan, you’re not domesticating a minx by keeping it in your house. It’s still a wild animal, domestication takes generations to achieve

Agree BUT I also think it’s sooo funny to describe oneself as feral when ur acting out of pocket

I really don’t think I’m acting out of pocket. I think I’m expressing irritation and that’s that

My boss told me ferrets aren’t wild animals… I looked at them and said “they’re literally predators that hunt chickens.”

Nooo sorry I wasn’t saying you’re acting out of pocket, I meant like when people are being horny on main and describe themselves as being feral (for example) That’s my bad, I should’ve said “when they’re acting out of pocket” 😭 low on sleep n whatnot

Are pet ferrets domesticated, or are they just wild animals that some people keep in their homes? /gen

It’s a weird topic, they can be domesticated but in their heart they are truely wild. It’s like saying a wolf that doesn’t eat humans at a wolf sanctuary isn’t wild, it’s still wild just under the care of humans

We’re all wild and primal if we’re doing it right 💓 just have to learn how/when to properly control and release.

That one. That’s about as well what I was getting at. While they are wild they understand that they are pets to some capacity. It’s the same reason you can’t release a dolphin who was rescued and nursed back like winter (may she rest in peace) because they wouldn’t be able to defend or rely on their instincts.

Gotcha!! It’s like the opposite of how house cats as a species have been domesticated but there are individuals who are feral and Not Friends To People. Ferrets as a species are wild but some of them have been tried to be Homies, basically?
