Fun (?) fact: coal puts more radiation into the atmosphere every year than three mile island ever did. Coal contains two isotopes of carbon: carbon-12 (which is stable), and carbon-14 (which isn’t). When you put that CO2 in the atmosphere, the carbon-14 will undergo radioactive decay, and release radiation into the atmosphere over time. I fucking hate coal.
Quick note: we still haven’t really solved the “nuclear waste problem” yet. Most nuclear waste in the US is kept on-site at the nuclear plant it was generated at. There was going to be a central place to store it in Nevada but that faced a ton of public backlash (rightfully in my opinion, as Nevada is the original victim of nuclear colonialism). There’s a bunker in Finland that is meant to keep all the nuclear waste of the whole world in one spot, but it isn’t open yet.
