i feel like this is something you could contact local politicians about with your concerns! it might not do much for just you to do it, but if you encourage others you know to do the same, something might happen

environmental engineer here. this has a completely negligible impact on the environment. think about the rest of your life and how much energy is involved with it … ever fly on a plane? buy groceries? own anything made out of metal? obviously you have to eat and live etc, but it’s so annoying when people post things like what you’ve posted. the energy impacts that matter are things happening on a huge scale, not a couple highly efficient LED lights illuminating a fear of great engineering

yes! local politicians, Audubon society, your NAI regional members, even some residents whose homes face that direction might be pissed about the light pollution into their windows too.

What about all the migratory birds, the insects, etc. Environmentalism is about more than just energy usage

Whoa chill bro, don’t speak on things you’re not fully educated on. Millions of birds around the world die annually due to window collisions. In Chicago, they’ve retrieved over 1000 birds in a single night after hitting skyscrapers during migration, and data shows over 170 different species have been collected over the years. There’s a Lights Out initiative now for the city during migration, and same in NYC (birding at top of a darkened Empire State Building during twilight migration is nuts).

Any local birding club can help a lot! They have more resources and pull to make changes. Locally my schools Audubon has put up dots on a lot of the school windows to deter bird collisions and it’s worked wonders and it’s amazing to see the school and city working with this club

It’s not the energy people are thinking of it’s the migoratory birds struggling with their navigation systems and the many many insects who can’t navigate and fly themselves to exhaustion
