Do you think the turtles who get released by conservation groups have a leg up on the others? Kind of like a “I come from a prestigious background and have more opportunities” Or is it more like book smarts vs street smarts?

Ivw wondered this too. I think it probably is an advantage but it’s not super clean cut. I think the main advantage is they’ve probably gotten a free pass on the most dangerous part of their lives. I could be wrong but I assume they’re most vulnerable after hatching. (I assume) Sea turtles are way more r adapted in relation to humans, and when we take care of them, we take care of every single one, which eliminates that natural selection process>

But releasing them to the wild later than normal is probably a disadvantage. It probably all also changes a lot depending on species as well. I could be wrong about all this though I’m just guessn and cheesn

That is a good point. Naturally, only about 1% of hatchlings make it to adulthood
