don’t get me wrong i’m incredibly happy that the nylabone company donated a ton of extra strength toy bones to the chimp sanctuary i work at. however, they chose the most realistic shape for them and i think they may give the vet staff a heart attack

(they’re in the sink to be sanitized, most of the chimpies are from biomedical research and/or are elderly so they’re immunocompromised. just an extra safety measure, especially since they love to mouth on these)

Why don’t they give to dogs

because it’s a chimp sanctuary, we don’t have dogs

also when we get donations we’ll take pics of the chimps with them and its good advertising. “if these dog toys can withstand a chimp they can withstand your dog” sort of thing

They’re not in the wild. They’re in a sanctuary

Actually monkeys will play with all kinds of shit, some species are even observed to now have made tools, capturing other primates for pets of smaller breeds, and even recently an orangoutang documented using herbal stuff for medicine on a wound!

Was like some thing it chewed into a paste to coat a wound. Neat shit. Nature is cool as fuck my dudes I wish I was smart enough to be a biologist

a) chimps do, they often feed on small mammals in the wild. b) they may chew on something similarly shaped c) these are all captive born sanctuary chimps and a lot have a sort of oral fixation, the bones help them direct that fixation onto something else instead of harming themselves (coprophagia, regurgitation, biting)

also some of them like to carry bones and other toys as “babies” which is super cute
