Especially when not all members of society experience equal environmental harm and there are those who (in varying degrees) benefit directly from perpetuating environmental harm Even the concept of a rational “common interest” is very complicated here

i honestly think they meant it in the sense of it being a PARTISAN political issue, where one side wants to help & the other doesn’t even believe in the science bc they haven’t personally experienced enough of the effects of climate change yet.
