doesn’t seem harsh to me. people are lazy, plain and simple. i bet you the entire US looks like this around this time of year and it’s heartbreaking because there needs to be better systems in place so people in need can access the lightly used items and have proper recycling systems, etc. but it starts with us as individuals and taking the action to recycle and dispose of things properly.
oop catch me doing that. i wasn’t sure if it was cause the property manger doesn’t have a budget for it or something but i’ll definitely look into that cause we have 2 dumpsters at both buildings and no recycling. i literally have a box in my apartment that i use for recycling and take it home 50 mins when i visit on the weekends so i can dispose of it properly. literally makes me wanna dig the boxes out and recycle them properly 🥲
Oh yeah I agree it’s a huge problem in general but you don’t know anyone’s specific reasoning for putting stuff in the trash, especially when there’s wayyyy worse they could have done than collapsing cardboard boxes that no longer need and putting them in the designated garbage receptacle 😭
But yeah for sure I would ask your property manager and city about it. Some areas don’t have the infrastructure or funding for recycling programs since it comes from local taxes. Especially in like rural areas. Even if you’re in a suburban area it might just be that the city thinks there would be low participation until enough people ask about it. My bf’s dad called the city every week asking about recycling until they finally added their neighborhood to the program
Tbh tho it’s not an uncommon thing to take still usable items from the garbage area on moving day lmao. My school has a lot of out of state or international students that can’t bring everything back home with them so there’s usually stacks of free shit next to the dumpsters. I’ve snagged a mini fridge, ottoman, bar cart , and a ton of other shit over the years LMAO
