They’re also dependent on fossil fuel exports to China and India so their economy is fucked if everyone gives up on green energy

True but China is doing the most to break free of fossil fuels now, so hopefully they will slowly eliminate reliance on Russian oil. In addition, the west is not innocent of oil commerce with Russia and Azerbaijan (in fact, most european fossil fuel comes from these countries and nonwestern but western aligned countries like Hungary, Poland, Slovakia are all extremely reliant on it).

China is still making deals with Russia for arctic mining and oil/gas they have a long way to go. Their green energy is growing fast but the energy need is just so gargantuan because of their industrial base that it’s still pretty dependent on fossil fuels. Europe is definitely still buying Russian oil through intermediaries. Hungary is NOT western aligned rn tho 💀 orban is firmly in putin’s camp.

an ice free arctic benefits China the most after Russia itself since they can route their shipping traffic to wealthy European markets via northern Russian ports rather than risk a US controlled Panama Canal or an India controlled Bay of Bengal. It’s all realpolitik.
