I fucking feel left out whenever I see my other friends saying “oh my mom and dad helped me move in and we went to these stores they have the best blahblaha” I just nod but inside I’m like why can’t I have those parents support there child in college

Understandable. I have a support system, but it’s completely conditional. Makes me a lil peeved when I see people who are borderline flunking having the time of their lives, meanwhile if I don’t maintain/get up my grades the whole vibe of my family changes.

i feel you :(( after move in, my college did a thing where families lined up along one of our main walkways on campus and cheered as our class walked through and no one was there to cheer for me, i'm now a junior and i will say it's a constant battle of resentment and forgiveness with my family but also learning to build a strong support system for myself that i chose and not letting having shitty parents/childhood trauma hold me back from living a life of fulfillment and happiness

At least you still have a mom and dad. Lost my dad at 4 years old and my mom at 28. I’m completely alone in the world.

Yeah. Either way it does really suck. My mom wasn’t supportive of my college journey either when she was alive. Always put down what major I chose, and even if I got a 93% she’d say you can do better.
