Gonna share my own rant/anecdote, which may not help but ur not alone. My Family only checked in about my grades and I was always worried about not being able to show my face whenever I struggled. It felt like I was only in school to please them, which made me hate school even more. Ended up hating college so much I dropped out and took a year off to work/live alone. (1)
Realized I actually enjoyed my degree, just not the family stress. Worked my ass off to be able to pay for college on my own and am about to finish my degree, on my own terms. The freedom of knowing your degree is only FOR YOU and ignoring the family stress is very hard to do. Not everyone can go as far as i did to separate from family, but making sure to remember that this is YOUR degree. No matter how you get it, it’s yours. Even if they paid for it, its yours
Point is, don’t take the stress family puts on your grades and think it’s the major or your own capabilities. Genuinely all that extra stress, isn’t yours—it’s your families. Whenever I felt like I was on my last edge, it was almost 90% my family putting me there. Best thing is to ignore their demands, give them the bare minimum information they ask for and try to separate home life from school life as much as possible. Again This is your education, no matter who pays for it.
