home for the summer & was unpacking. my older sister (studying criminal justice) saw I had Narcan (which I always have on hand mainly bc I’m an RA). She flips shift when she saw it, accused me of being a drug addict, then physically restrains/attacks me🤡

the irony of her studying criminal justice TO BECOME A COP and just assuming anyone who has Narcan is a drug addict (which I very obv not using heroin, opioids, etc like wtf), is soooo closed minded. Like you can literally just be existing in public and encounter someone overdosing for a plethora of reasons. I’m just prepared to help if needed (including when doing RA rounds etc) so I’m just flabbergasted how unreasonable she’s being

Lol, does she realize people can't administer narcan to themselves. SMH

yeah she sounds insane, as a cop she’s literally going to be carrying narcan too, no is going to automatically assume she’s a drug addict because of that. absolutely bonkers

No offense but your sister is an idiot and should seriously educate herself outside of academia.

When I studied psychology they gave all of us Narcan and told us the importance of carrying it on us “just in case” something ever happened to someone around us

Narcan is good to have whether you are a druggy or not, rather be safe than not be

That is so screwed up. Thank you for carrying Narcan though!! I’m a social worker & I work with addicts, I wish more people would carry it

I'm a criminal justice student and this goes against everything we're taught in our classes. The officers who teach me would call your sister all kinds of crazy names for such actions

The funniest part is that police departments literally couldn’t care less about criminal justice degrees. They’ll tell you to your face that it’s useless and won’t give you an edge in the career

Always a good idea to keep naloxone of any kind on you. Never know when someone around you might need it. Also never know what you’ve touched that can cause an overdose.

So when she becomes a cop and has to carry narcan, how does she plan on beating herself up?

and even in cases where someone ISNT overdosing, but they think something might be laced and administer Narcan, it literally will not do ANYTHING unless you actually have opiates or opioids in your system. Like you can literally send 100 doses up your nostrils and nothing bad will happen if you’re not on something bc it only affects opioid receptors. So there’s literally only positives of having it on you. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

What I’m saying though is yes she probably learned the definition of it, saw a picture of it, etc. in school. But what she should be doing other than studying, is buying it and familiarizing herself with it. Everyone should know what it is/how to use it in case of emergencies
