Yep. Things are not the same as they were 10 years ago. They’re def not the same as whatever “back in the day” they’re referring to

If I make $30k with my bachelors degree, does that mean I need THREE JOBS to barely live “comfortably”

Full time EMT here in MA and I would make $75K before taxes IF I worked 50 hours every single week. Regular full time is $48K… I - what’s the living wage for single adult in MA?

If you are making 95k as a single adult, you are doing a lot better than just “living comfortably”. I supported myself my entire gap year off of 20 an hour. Shit was VERY tight but that’s literally like 40k a year. 95k is juuuuust fine. I feel like we should question what they are considering to be living “comfortably”.

They’ll say “back in my day” as if they owed that shit and everything made sense and was right the way it was just because they were alive at that time. Like mf, you contributed nothing to “your day” other than some poor political decisions that have screwed your children and grandchildren.

Start thinking about economic boycotts. Look into what bank you use- change to a better one (likely credit unions), buy local as much as possible, and bully your damn representatives.

What’s “comfortable” really mean and how does “comfortable” from back then compare to today? We need these defined to make a fair comparison.

This actually pisses me off SO bad bc everyone always still says that 50k a year is the average salary. If a person is bringing in 50k a year in this economy that’s poverty.

My parents don’t even make that single adult amount combined.

a single adult in MA needs $116,022 per year to live comfortably (cover needs, wants, + savings) according to smart asset, roughly $56/hr

Glad to know I make far less than half of that… I love my job and it has purpose but this economy makes it hard

Only people who have never been poor complain about not having enough money to live “comfortably”

That’s inflated though because such a high percentage of MA is really expensive to live in
