what i mean is everyone is different and every author appreciates different things from readers so if there’s smthn that you particularly do or do not want to see in the comments (i.e: constructive criticism, jokes abt characters, wank and tell, asking for updates) just leave that in the notes/tags/description of your story bc no broad statement like this will ever apply to every author (and more likely ppl will actually listen that way tbh)

plus if i commented what i meant was encouragement on a fic i loved and opened another app to see my exact comment posted with the author talking abt how much they absolutely hated when ppl said that, uh, i’d feel pretty shitty. i mean removing the username is definitely the way to do it if you are gonna post specific comments, but in general that’s usually better avoided, with the exception of like, hate comments yk

i do definitely understand how that would get frustrating too! ig maybe audience size makes a difference too bc i tend to write in smaller fandoms so nothing gets a ton of attention and have a dedicated reader is a relatively rare occurrence so this would be super exciting for me lol. just goes to show even in fandom, we still all have very different experiences with these things i guess

yeah. it’s also a lot more recent of a thing because that didn’t use to happen as much, but the audience for my fic has gotten bigger (it’s at >1,000 kudos now) like I appreciate the comment don’t get me wrong, and the second part of it was pretty nice, i’m just getting tired of people begging for updates because like i’m trying my best

oh wow, well for one, congrats! (and condolences a bit too lol) hopefully throwing a little smthn into the notes of the next update could help with this a little, and if it still doesnt slow down, you can always turn off comments/stop checking them, or if you still want to see other, more positive comments, set it to author filtered, which in combination with a note usually stops a lot of ppl from even trying to post one like that! either way, i hope this doesn’t end up discouraging you at all🫶

the rest of them are usually encouraging, so i’ll probably leave it on and just stop complaining, and it doesn’t really, it’s just mildly annoying plus i’ve mentioned before in notes “I don’t know when the next update will be/it will prob take a while”
