all these amazing women in this show, some that are even canonically queer, with much more interesting dynamics than the ones between the men and between them and the men and yet this is what’s on ao3

like ok ig ppl like old man yaoi or toxic * age gap yaoi but what about toxic yuri, or old woman yuri? or just wlw in general? especially in a show with a largely female cast (even if the main main character is a man)

Unsure what show this is but part of this in many fandoms comes down to how the female characters are written in the main show. A lot of media will have lesser developed female characters in comparison to male characters due to sexism, and that trickles down to fanfiction writers, who are more drawn to characters that are more fleshed out- some of it is also definitely fetishization and sexism tho :/

it’s not just badly written women that cause this. Women are seen as lesser people, which make people less excited to read about them. We’ve been “othered” into oblivion, to the point where we’re treated to be nothing more than prizes or things for men to win. Many men don’t see women as people experiencing their lives; women are the experiences men have been taught to be entitled to, and I hate it.

given that this post is very likely about the pitt, “written down” female characters isn’t the problem. all of the main women in this show are VERY well written and complex characters. the issue is that the fandom as a whole pushes the “toxic work place age gap yaoi” suuuuper hard. honestly if i have to see one more person say that a hucklerobbie fic changed them im going to lose it.

I’ve never seen the Pitt so I can’t speak on it but that’s crazyyy that the fandom is so obsessed with the men of it’s a female centered show. Part of it is for sure fetishization- as a bi man I do love gay fics but it’s also crazy how strangely fetishized gay and especially trans men are.
