Hot (?) take, but I HATE reading typed accents. Like Hagrid’s speech, or Fleur’s or Krum’s (can you tell what I’ve been reading recently?). I’d so much rather it be conveyed through word choice or saying something like “[character] had to think for a moment to decipher the [whatever] accent” or something similar
yeah typed accents are so grating, it's so much better when they're able to nail down the syntax/grammatical differences that speakers often carry over from their native language to their non native language and/or just straight up saying that the character has an accent like you said
like i recently read a book where one of the characters is russian and he often says stuff like "is good" or "is a joke" and i can HEAR the accent without the author even needing to explain that he has an accent and they're also not writing it as "eez gud" or smth that makes it difficult to read
