its bc the author is introducing giant turtles into the story as their own worldbuilding device (or someone elses, in the case of fanfics), but are also still plausibly operating w "real world" mechanics that youre familiar with in your own life- when the latter details are inconsistent, they stand out more! theres a name for this but idk what it is

I’m sure there is a word for it, but I think in this case it was about giving them a large enough place for four (Bayverse sized) turtles to fit and have enough privacy because of secrecy
