to people scared to post bc of the “author curse”- there is no curse. it’s a running joke about when life happens/something unfortunate and we blame it on being an author. bad things happen all the time but it isn’t because we write lol. so go post!

I know someone who is like this but it’s genuinely bad luck for them cause whenever they try to do something new, something does happen. Its to the point where they are very odd about manifesting and signs and stuff. I agree that there is no curse but some people get given a bad stack and they feel better with having something to blame. That’s my psychoanalysis on that point, feel free to tell me Im wrong. I very well could be 🤷‍♀️

i had a commenter mention the curse on one of my fics completely seriously and ask if i was ok. like girlie i appreciate the concern but i think my appendix was gonna explode regardless of whether i’m writing faerie smut lmao

Nah it’s a statistical thing. Think of how many works you read on AO3 and how few of them have crazy things happening. Life will happen to people regardless of if they post on AO3 or not. The joke is that there’s more visibility and so crazy things happen.
