I’m the opposite wherein I’ve only ever written longfics and quickly learned that a three chapter short story wasn’t a oneshot

But if you want to write a longfic, go for it! And I have some tips that helped me along if you want to hear them

I found it really helpful to have an outline of the plot before I started writing. In writing longfics, it’s imperative to know what the ending is going to be BEFORE you start writing the first act

Also, one of the best writing advice I saw was that if your story has a set antagonist, make them a mirror of the protagonist. An example of this would them both being outsiders, both being super powerful, both being hopeless romantics, etc. What makes them interesting is how they act differently in those similar circumstances or with those traits. This obvi doesn’t work for every story, but is very helpful

Foreshadowing is a lot of fun to write. Just remember to have payoff

Editing for me is about as fun as shoving needles beneath my fingernails, but I highly recommend it. Do whatever you want editing wise— this is fanfic, after all! It’s not like it’s going to a publisher, but it really helps with flow and catching silly errors

outlines make sense, usually for my short ones i have a small paragraph for the idea and then it expands from there lmao. thank you for the tips!!

Of course! And here’s my biggest tip: The story you write will foremost be not for the fandom, not for your intended audience, but for YOU. Write what brings you joy and fulfillment. Everything else is just icing on the cake 🩷

that is very very true, i think once i started writing for others instead is when i lost motivation tbh 💔 ill definitely have to keep that in mind whenever i start the longfic so i dont lose motivation again 😭
