
Exactly lots of people have no problem identifying or parading the cry of objectification when it comes to gay men because they’re men. And people who don’t bother to find out what fandom actually creates pose fandom as some sort of fetishizing, objectifying place when lots of the fan content is created by women, who are of course objectified every moment from the beginning of their lives. Nobody bats an eye. But as soon as men dare be objectified at all by women it’s wholly their fault 🙄
Fandom is a reflection of culture and personal experience like every other hobby. I would argue more so than others because it involves character interpretation, which also heavily depends on personal experience. I’m really not advocating for fetishization, because it’s a horrible thing to experience for anyone. I just think the blame that I’ve seen lots of people sic on women alone is ridiculous.
