Reminder that dead dove does NOT inherently mean “this fic contains fucked up shit”, dead dove means “this story contains exactly what is tagged, dont act surprised when I told you what’s in it.” So TAG your fucked up shit :)

for the longest time i thought it meant thered be the most horribly twisted messed up shit bc thats whats id associated it with after seeing it on so many fics with that kind of stuff, now im forever wondering how many perfectly normal fics with just slightly triggering stuff that likely wouldnt have bothered me ive skipped over

Yeah but if the ONLY tag on someone’s fic that alludes to fucked up shit, I don’t know what KIND of fucked up shit is in there which ruins the entire purpose. I’ve seen fics that “Chose Not to Archive Warnings” and have completely otherwise normal tags except the one dead dove tag. I have literally no idea what I’m walking into when dead dove is supposed to be an indicator that what’s in the tags is in the fics

Unfortunately I think it’s just taken on that meaning over the years. Language changes and culture evolves.

If you don’t use tags appropriately, or don’t even tag what’s in the content of a fic, you’re ruining the purpose of an archive. It’s not wattpad

I get that we’re all just playing with our Barbies on the internet, but if people have triggering content in their fics they’re defeating the entire purpose of not using an entire tagging system that allows readers to filter out the content they don’t want to read. A “catch all be all” isn’t helpful. Someone can find graphic depictions of gore perfectly fine, but graphic depictions of rape extremely triggering.

A “dead dove” tag that doesn’t indicate whether it’s gore or rape, in this example, does literally nothing for the readers. They may be okay with it, they may not, they have literally no idea what they’re walking into. It ruins the filtering system that is the backbone to the archive
