depends on the strength of the darkness manipulation i think, like if it’s powerful enough on its own then limiting it to nighttime would be a good counterbalance but if it’s already simple or limited then making it a nocturnal ability might not be necessary. what do you mean by manipulate darkness actually?

Like one of her abilities is blackout where she can create a sphere within the confines of her en where light ceases to exist. Like someone could turn on a flashlight inside it and it wouldn’t do anything. She can draw the darkness in to temporarily enhance her physical abilities but it’ll make the sphere shrink the more she uses it. Then as long as she doesn’t physically move she can “void” her body; the space she was in before becomes occupied by her nen instead and attacks pass through.
