I also think when Wattpad and FFN get stricter their readers went to AO3 and left some awful comments so some people only wanted actual AO3 users to read their stuff

It’s just to filter out bots mainly. You just gotta wait like 3-5 days and you’ll get approved

AO3 has been hacked a bunch so I think it’s a safety thing. I got approved in a couple days.
