Is it just me or are fanfics in general getting more… immature for lack of a better word? Like why are the characters acting like elementary school children? Especially if it’s an office or college AU

idk I look back at fanfics that used to be my absolute favorite and now I re-read them and I can tell a middle schooler wrote them…It might just be from getting older and having higher standards 🤷‍♀️ I could be wrong though, I’m not big on reading too many incomplete fics so I don’t often read super recent stuff

Characters being immature, author having no understanding of college/university, awful grammar, no understanding on the human anatomy, too much slang to the point where it doesn’t even make sense, etc…

That’s definitely a possibility! I read some anime fanfics and even though a lot of the ones I watch are technically rated “m” for violence and sexual themes, we all know younger people will still find a way to watch them. But then I also read fanfics for shows like Criminal Minds which kids should definitely not be watching. The internet’s definitely made it easier for kids and teens to watch things that aren’t made for them
