Only og Xbox and 360 games remain available to play regardless of subscription status. If it’s Xbox one then you need a subscription. Same thing for me on PlayStation. I have the games I claimed but if I’m not subscribed I can’t play them.

That hasn't been how it works since like 2014 and they announced that at the time. Agreed that digital is bad but cmon lol

Yeah, it used to be ALL games were available without the subscription, they changed it to old gen when they got rid of "gold"

Gamepass essential is just renamed XBL gold though

But you used to be able to unsubscribe and still play the games for gold. That changed when they ended "gold"

As #1 said, that was only for 360 games. Here's an archive of the FAQ from 2020 when Gold was still around and the rules were the same. It's been that way since they added Xbox One games to the program over 10 years ago
