I have some new games but I’m not sure which one to start first. Any recs? I normally buy them when they’re on sale for a crazy amount but haven’t gotten around to playing any yet:

Do you want an ultra-refined, modern, ultra realistic open world RPG with amazing focus on character and story? Play RDR2. Do you want to experience one of the most influential FPS’s of all time with awesomely fun physics? Play Half Life. Do you want a multiplayer horde shooter you can play over and over again with friends? Play L4D2.

RDR2 is a prequel so it's okay to play it before RDR, the story just comes across a little differently. It's the best story ever in a video game, in my opinion, but it's a really slow burn, so if you're not into that you probably won't enjoy it.

I just realized they’re all sequels and I haven’t played the originals lol.

IMO I honestly think playing RDR2 first is gonna make RDR stronger. The writing is leaning far more into analyzing westerns as a genre than being a character study in the first game, but I still think seeing the fates of some characters would hit way harder if you do it in that order.

Some parts would hit harder and some parts wouldn't hit as hard, but yeah, it can be done in either order

It’ll probably just feel most shocking with the shift in style and tone, honestly. While RDR2 does have a lot of western flair in it, the first game goes in HARD on the spaghetti western aesthetic, and almost exclusively sets itself in that environment with just a little bit of the Grizzlies and Blackwater to explore. It’s not the ultra-real world of RDR2 but it is way more stylized I feel
