Do you want an ultra-refined, modern, ultra realistic open world RPG with amazing focus on character and story? Play RDR2. Do you want to experience one of the most influential FPS’s of all time with awesomely fun physics? Play Half Life. Do you want a multiplayer horde shooter you can play over and over again with friends? Play L4D2.
IMO I honestly think playing RDR2 first is gonna make RDR stronger. The writing is leaning far more into analyzing westerns as a genre than being a character study in the first game, but I still think seeing the fates of some characters would hit way harder if you do it in that order.
It’ll probably just feel most shocking with the shift in style and tone, honestly. While RDR2 does have a lot of western flair in it, the first game goes in HARD on the spaghetti western aesthetic, and almost exclusively sets itself in that environment with just a little bit of the Grizzlies and Blackwater to explore. It’s not the ultra-real world of RDR2 but it is way more stylized I feel
