It is a collaborative process. People have been autistically min-maxing World of Warcraft this way for 22 years. No part of that is “follow this guide” to the people who are actually doing the optimizing, but it’s also not figuring it out yourself.

Ok fair, what you’re describing does seem like it could be fun and rewarding. The optimizers I know personally are much more follow-the-guide types and it doesn’t seem like they even enjoy it, they just do it because they hate not being the best
