What game engine were you planning to use? Scratch.mit.edu is a good enough engine geared towards kids to make something simple. Gamemaker is also good for beginners, but I’m not sure if it has a free version. If you have experience with blender, Unity or unreal may be better, but they have higher learning curve early on.
Gdevleop looks like an ai plagiarism tool… as in I hit create, and instead entering an ide of some sort, I’ve presented with a Roblox layout of game selections that are just copies of other existing games. I mean there’s also a prompt to generate a game, but that’s the most friction I’ve experienced with just figuring out where to start.
I may have overreacted, it looks like there is an editor… I’m sorry if I may have scared you off. I still would recommend different platforms, but the integrated AI features may be helpful since you’re new to game development. I would still recommend simple gameplay. Art can take your game far, so an auto side scroller with either enemies to avoid or fight can be compelling as long as your able to shape it well with the art direction
Well I’m not using the AI features. I’m just using the basic programming tools with my art. The game is going to be simple so I’m not too worried about limitations. A run and jump platformer with 3 bosses that will have very simple mechanics to beat lol. It isn’t meant to be hard— more like a love letter in a format he will enjoy best
