Bro nothing is more cringe than being 30+ with a wall full of video game discs. They aren’t even good looking like books. Literally the lamest part of the whole hobby. People game because they like playing games. Physical disc collectors are the minority. If I play a $30 game for literally 160+ hours then I got my moneys worth. Most people dinners that cost more than $100 and they’re gone in less than an hour.
I like to think about the Nintendo Wii/DS and how the E-Shop is discontinued on those consoles and now the only way to play some of those games (other than 🏴☠️ which is totally valid) is finding the physical copy of those games. Imagine if there were no physical copies of those games to begin with. They’d be a total loss.
The issue is what if they decide to take down a game you love because some group claimed it was too violent? What if they want to convince you to buy a new console, so they stop games from working on the old one? Maybe they’ll feel like the can fix games any time, and put out something super unfinished. Physical media holds companies accountable, and gives power to the consumers, which the companies are trying to take away
When has that ever happened to a game that matters? Yall must not have PCs because PC has been practically digital only for over a decade now. Multiplayer games die all the time. There are hundreds of thousands of games and hundreds of new games come out each year. You will never see me cry over one lost game out of millions but I’m also not a cry baby 😂
Imagine this, because PlayStation has shitty security and customer service, your account with 100+ digital games gets hacked and banned and you end up losing all of your games. Thats a lot of money lost man. With physical copies of games, if you one day lose access to your main account, at least you still have access to your games because physical games are not linked to a login.
