That’s basically what they’ve done for the PS5 where the entire game has to be on-loaded from the disc before you can even play it and they can still prohibit play that way if you’re connected to the Internet at all. 🫩 This is such bullshit.

this is what happens when the capitalism fails and consumers stop caring. id recommend not buying the bext call of duty or 2k on these platforms.

Everyone who is upset in the comments needs to remember that you vote with your money. It might suck, but maybe don’t rush to buy these new only online games. Make PlayStation doubt these moves

I mean, what are the legalities of burning the game disk, can you do that?

Bro nothing is more cringe than being 30+ with a wall full of video game discs. They aren’t even good looking like books. Literally the lamest part of the whole hobby. People game because they like playing games. Physical disc collectors are the minority. If I play a $30 game for literally 160+ hours then I got my moneys worth. Most people dinners that cost more than $100 and they’re gone in less than an hour.

What’s the big deal? You’ll still have it on your console storage?

What happens if the game gets delisted? How will people ever be able to play it again?

I like to think about the Nintendo Wii/DS and how the E-Shop is discontinued on those consoles and now the only way to play some of those games (other than 🏴‍☠️ which is totally valid) is finding the physical copy of those games. Imagine if there were no physical copies of those games to begin with. They’d be a total loss.

The issue is what if they decide to take down a game you love because some group claimed it was too violent? What if they want to convince you to buy a new console, so they stop games from working on the old one? Maybe they’ll feel like the can fix games any time, and put out something super unfinished. Physical media holds companies accountable, and gives power to the consumers, which the companies are trying to take away

Even with discs, ever since PS4 and Xbox One generation of consoles discs were just buying the license to a game, they could still do this

literally not true. if you had a console that was never connected to the internet at all, you could still load up a disk and play a game.

no, you can not

okay give an example. there's a group called Does It Play? that has catalogued hundreds of games and how they function off the disk, the majority of non-multiplayer only games work fine.

They literally just removed access to 500 different movies people pitches in the PlayStation store. They can very easily do the same with games.

Hey, when you’re unable to play games because they terminated licensure or what not, that’s on you. I’ll stick to disc as long as I can.

People have blu-rays of the criterion collection. How is that different from physical copies of games? Do you think both are cringe?

Anonymous replying to -> #8 10h

When has that ever happened to a game that matters? Yall must not have PCs because PC has been practically digital only for over a decade now. Multiplayer games die all the time. There are hundreds of thousands of games and hundreds of new games come out each year. You will never see me cry over one lost game out of millions but I’m also not a cry baby 😂

Having physical movies aren’t cringe just ugly and objectively a waste of space. Unless you’re craving to play a game from 2002 on a CRT for an hour and then never touch it again for 5 years it’s really not worth it.

Your both right and wrong it does require internet to confirm licensing, which the disk is the license so it’s kinda bs to begin with, but it does require internet to make the confirmation and begin the copy process

Imagine this, because PlayStation has shitty security and customer service, your account with 100+ digital games gets hacked and banned and you end up losing all of your games. Thats a lot of money lost man. With physical copies of games, if you one day lose access to your main account, at least you still have access to your games because physical games are not linked to a login.
