If steammachine is 1k+ they should keep it, digital foundry said it will be slightly less powerful than a ps5. Makes no sense to sell ps5 level pc but prices as ps5 pro. At $1k+ u can find a way more powerful prebuilt pc just slap in big picture mode

With current RAM and computer part prices I’d still buy at 1k for the convenience. Prices are only going up not down from here. Probably I’d pay up to $1,200 because of the customer service, convenience and reputation of quality of Steam. Although ideally I’m hoping for around $800 or less

I feel like you may be out of touch with computer pricing if you think ~1k is too expensive for something capable of safely running BG3 sized games. My current PC is like 4 years old and it cost 2k+... it sometimes has problems with games and its storage is degrading. My 8 year old laptop was on sale for 1.2k and it need a new battery, but it was pretty good EIGHT YEARS AGO. A 1k PC capable of modern gaming is extremely affordable. Xbox and PS make a lot of their money from subscriptions

I honestly don’t know if you can find a prebuilt pc for 1k that’s more powerful than a PS5 pro or even steam deck sadly, prices are absurd. To me you either spend 600 on a series X or PS5, or you save up and buy a 2500+ PC with a 5080 that can handle everything well, all the imbetweens aren’t really worth it

Steam machine is a costume pc only the storage and ram will be upgradable, diy will be a lot more restrictive than a regular pc with just regular parts and if u wanna upgrade that will be impossible

This only works if it's a good value

At $800 will be a reasonable price but $1200? U can easily find a way better pc. Just use steam os and buy a controller and u got yourself a steam machine

Idk about that u can get a decent $1k-$1200 prebuilt pc from microcenter. Yeah it will not be crazy powerful but a 5060 or 5060ti with amd x3d CPU will get better performance than a ps5 pro, and u still get the added benefits of upgradability, emulation and steam

“Less powerful than a PS5” they subsidize the console knowing you’re locked in to their ecosystem and it still relies on upscaling anyway. Whoop de doo.

That’s the same thing they did with the steam deck JACK ASS, they sold it at cost not profiting off the deck because they know they will make it up through steam sales and steam os. And JACK ASS valve showed off the machine by playing cyberpunk on 4k upscaled with ai frames, do you really think it could play cyberpunk at 4k 60fps😂😂😂
