Okay so here’s the thing: I loved TLOU2. Fantastic gameplay, story still manages to hit hard even with a couple stumbles. However, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to hate Abby by the end of the game. Ellie too, for that matter. It’s a very bleak series filled with horribly selfish and vile characters, who also can be kind and loving at other times. I think if someone comes away hating them by the end, that’s a reasonable response to what was shown. I think it’s part of what makes it work.

Like, you’re not supposed to like what these characters do that’s the POINT. People go through so many mental gymnastics to justify Joel/Ellie’s actions in these games when they’re indefensible just because they can’t deal with having to play as a shitty person. Ellie straight up threatens to murder an innocent child with a knife at the end of Pt. 2 and people still say she should have gone through with killing Abby. Yeah, that would have been more realistic, but it would have ruined the themes.
