I will die on the hill that drinking to the point of blacking out regularly is not normal and shouldn’t be socially acceptable

This is a good hill to die on. I’ve never once been actually blackout drunk. I remember everything unfortunately 😃✋ I will get fucked up every once in awhile I make bad decisions/regret things but like, alcohol has never made me actually forget what happened

this!! I’ve never blacked out, never thrown up, and never done anything I seriously regretted. bc I drink responsibly 😌. It’s so odd that people brag about making themselves sick

Absolutely, if your friend is blacking out regularly you should check in with them and ask them if they want help. Addictions are coping mechanisms when someone doesn’t know how to cope or doesn’t have resources to cope

It’s also just not fun at allll, I’ve blacked out twice (years apart) and it’s the worst feeling ever waking up not knowing wtf happened

I don’t get it, like I have drank A LOT twice to the point of throwing up left and right and I’ve still never blacked out or forgotten anything. Like is that just how my body works or?

Doesn’t matter if no one cares. Care for yourself. If you are expecting some savior to make it all better it won’t happen. You know it’s bad and do it anyway. That’s on you. Not for anyone to see and fix for you.

I mean normal doesnt always mean right or good. The truth is lots of college students do drugs and alcholol even when a lot don’t but the majority will do one or the other therefore it is considered normal that college students do those things.

I agree that it shouldn’t be normalized, 100%. I’ve never drank personally and don’t intend to (but I don’t judge a soul that partakes! Just be safe!) But the “don’t let it be socially acceptable” part makes me worry. I worry that this could mean stereotyping people who struggle with alcoholism as ‘bad people’. But if it’s about wishing it were seen as the medical issue it is, then 1000%.
