fr like let’s not act like it’s unavoidable. it’s okay to have changed and improved from who u used to be, but if u were racist at some point growing up then ur racism probably had victims and that shouldn’t be overlooked

my friend got groomed by neo-nazis, which is definitely abnormal but she’s not a bad person for it

even in less extreme circumstances, we need to acknowledge that highly-impressionable children are often a product of their environment. that doesn’t excuse their actions, but we shouldn’t be making sweeping judgements about people, especially ones who have come far since then

I think people don’t understand people who grew up in small red towns. I did and while I never said slurs that weren’t my own, a kid I went to school with was sooooo homophobic. He graduated, went to college, and is now married to his husband. People forget children are easy to manipulate

Sorry that happened to your friend but im sticking what what I said especially when there are many people who are affected by those actions. Cheers for your friend for changing but just because people change doesn’t mean the trauma and its effects towards the people who were victims towards racism is gone.

not to be snarky, but you just said it’s “not normal,” which doesn’t really mean anything. I also addressed that it doesn’t excuse their actions. I’m honestly not sure what you’re trying to say with this post

Because it’s not normal, it’s absurd, damaging, and harmful. But also the thing is you mentioned that we shouldn’t be making judgments and in return I said I will stick to what I said and will continue to make judgments against anyone that was racist towards others that were affected by it. Thank you! If you didn’t understand my post but multiple others did I think it would be nice of you to sit and examine the other comments of others who did and the post a bit more

to clarify, you're judging others for believing in those they trusted as children & for falling for extremely-prevalent propaganda? reducing racism down to "each person just chooses to be racist" downplays the extent to which our society perpetuates bigotry.

I’m specifically addressing how you’re judging people who’ve corrected not only their beliefs, but also their actions. if someone was racist in middle school but came out as an active advocate, I judge that they’re an amazing person for their willingness to challenge their stance.

where in my post are in any of my replies that I have said each person chooses to be racist. let me repeat it to you because I don’t think you seen it or read it correctly that I am going to continue to make those judgments because other children was facing that racism, yes it’s horrible children are being groomed into being racist but that’s not gonna make take back my words. But if you want to take it that way go ahead I don’t care, I’m standing on what I said.

I’m drawing conclusions from #4’s comment agreeing with you…? which is what you told me to do, after I asked for *you* to clarify *your* stance?

Just because they “corrected” themselves doesn’t erase the racism actions they had, I don’t know how many times I need to repeat this. I’m going to judge them based off their past actions just like I will to their current actions. I’m not going to praise someone for not being racist anymore. Sorry!

The way those are less harmful things and aren’t harmful at all so no those are not the same as saying having a racist phase is not normal. You sound very dumb

children are easily influenced by the world around them i grew up in a little conservative town, raised by racist parents and limited internet access, there was no colored kids in my school, i didn’t use slurs or hate colored people but when i was exposed to the real world i of course had some different views that i had to learn were wrong. it wasn’t my fault i grew up in a town where everyone called each other the f slur and the n word ❤️ it wasn’t my fault that i wasn’t educated correctly

i was 7 when i saw a black person for the first time and my dad called him the n word and told me thats what they were. i didn’t talk to a black petson till highschool bc i was raised in a small conservative religious school. its not my fault that the wrong ideas were drilled into my head since birth 😘 since then ive grown and learned its wrong but u cant hate someone for something they didnt have any control over

Hi! So clearly we don’t know how the internet works either, because if you upload a reply on a post then do the others later a person would see the first response before the other responses.

Let me clarify because two things can be true at once, I judge people for their past actions and their future actions because time doesn’t remove or erase their actions as it goes on which I have repeatedly mentioned. I know my stance perfectly.

Yeah I got that part. So why diminish #5’s friend’s experience and then support #8?

Anonymous replying to -> #9 7h

I literally didn’t, I told them I’m sorry that happened to your friend but that doesn’t erase the effects that happened to the others. I have been saying that the entire time, in one of my comments to them I said “just because they corrected themselves doesn’t mean it erases the trauma and affects that happened towards the others is erased”

So how is #8 a different discussion..

upvote 4 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #9 7h

Both of those comments are different discussions because neither number 5 friend or number 8 knew better since they obviously grew up in households that groomed them into this. This post was and is targeted towards people who obviously knew better than to be racist but yet still was racists. my intention for this post was not for children that was obviously groomed into it but for the people who know better and was racist in middle school and high school and now too
