Correct, the goals of foster care and private adoption are entirely different. In my opinion, the goal should ALWAYS be reunification if at all possible which is why for-profit adoption is something I perceive as unethical. I don’t like how they can interact with birth moms. (I’m not talking about your stepdad adopting you as a teen or whatnot (You” used generally)
People don’t realize it, but being separated from your family is ALWAYS traumatic, even as a tiny little infant. And some adoptees can thrive, but others don’t, and I try to listen to what they have to say on the issue. After listening, IVF seems much more ethical for a couple struggling to conceive than adoption.
And the fact that ppl are wishing for a crisis and tragedy to happen to a poor family so that they can use it as a family planning tool is so deplorable once you realize the realities of American adoption. Family, when safe and possible, is almost always going to be better than strangers when it comes to raising children. Poor families just need extra support, not for their infants to be sold to the highest bidder and to be legally severed from the entirety of their biological family forever
I saw a video of a woman who wanted to adopt & they let her into the birth mom’s hospital room to try & explain why she wanted the baby when the mom changed her mind? And then had the audacity to be upset about the mother choosing to keep her child. The entitlement is insane—no one is owed someone else’s baby.
I’ve seen that video I think…. Just goes to show how predatory and inherently coercive pre birth matching is. Like up to 40% of potential birth mothers decide not to go thru with relinquishing parental rights once they actually give birth. Bc it’s different when you give birth and hold your baby. If only all the money adoption agencies hoard for profit went to families in need so that they could parent
