People seem so shocked sometimes when I say my bf of 5 years (we've known each other for 8 years) is moving with me to another state for vet school. Like why would I want a 5 hour LDR when we can just... share a place together?

That’s kinda the reaction I used to get when people found out I lived with my bf. I mean, by the time we started college we’d been going out for about 4 years (took 2020/21 and 2021/22 school years off since we didn’t want to start college during online class era) I mean, his family owns a vacation place only about 45 mins from campus (was the family home generations ago) so why pay for dorms when we can move in there?

Moving in after 5 years seems totally reasonable meanwhile my ex roommate moved in with her bf of 5 months…

Besides, it’s actually not the first time we’d lived together, as I stayed with his family in March and April of 2020. My parents were out of the country for a week to visit a family member who wasn’t doing so well. Then the whole lockdown/travel ban hit. Not far long, but they couldn’t get back for a bit. They were fine with 17 year old me on my own for a week, but not so much when we realized we didn’t know how long it’d be.

Yeah it's wild to me because a solid half of people in our home town get married at 18 but us sharing a place at 23 and 25 is surprising 💀

Tbf I think they're mostly just surprised he's willing to relocate to another state but he really has no ties to our hometown other than some friends so it's not a big deal for him PLUS he can keep me sane during my 4 years of torture
