i think it also depends on various factors. i say “i can’t cook” and i mean i can’t just make a dish on the fly, i need a recipe. i also have a really bad habit of balancing everything alone and burning things bc my attention is spread too thin. but i hateeeeeee when people won’t even try bc “i never learned 🥺” girl, read.
There are a lot of basic skills and general knowledge that it’s often assumed you already have and know in recipes, which can make it hard if you don’t. I’m working on building my basic skills up and incorporating more ingredients into my regular cooking bit by bit, but I don’t really enjoy cooking and I find the planning and multitasking really challenging, so progress is slow. I do think it’s important to learn, but it isn’t as simple as “read a book.”
see i say i can’t cook, but what i mean is i can’t have ✨fun✨ cooking and i don’t know how to be ✨creative✨ with cooking. like i can follow a recipe, but i will be anxious the entire time lmao. but i can do basic cooking. i just never make that distinction. i will be doing that from now on lmao. didn’t realize that came off as incompetent, but i see it now😭
