As someone starting to actually “adult” and having to buy my own groceries, I’m having a hard time understand why people are complaining about egg. Like $4 for 18 doesn’t sound that bad to me 😭😭

Probably because you didn’t experience the price going up, imagine one day it were to double. Then you’d understand, but if this is all you know ofc you wouldn’t get it

and when it changes to 6-7 you’ll be upset but the person just starting to adult will say it’s not bad cuz they didn’t know any other price

And I’m specifically talking about my area. I know other places probably have much higher prices. It’s just the way people have been complaining, I thought it was $1 an egg or something

It’s been coming down, and it used to be like $2.50 here in 2024

As a single woman who lives on her own I didn’t understand the uproar at first either. But then I started talking to my friends with kids and families and for them, eggs run out so much quicker so there’s that constant feeling of either being out or close to being out of eggs and having to go spend another $4. It adds up quick!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been grocery shopping plenty of times with my parents. So I’ve seen the prices increase and completely get the annoyance. It’s the overreaction to what I’d still consider a low price that I don’t understand. Like there are some people acting like they’re gonna go bankrupt over 22¢ an egg

I definitely see what you mean but I think there’s a big difference between watching your parents pay for it and having to pay for it yourself

they won’t go bankrupt, but you have to remember some ppl have families to feed so eggs will be used up at a quicker rate, that $4 can quickly turn into $16+

It’s really not as bad as it was but I remember in the height of it, smaller non chain or family owned restaurants I like were even doing an upcharge on things including eggs (so lots of breakfast/brunch items, esp omelettes) so that their profits would stay consistent

Oh yeah, I think I was too focused on individuals. But I totally get how every cent matters when you have a lot of mouths to feed
