yes but tbh generation for everyone. im like chronically on my phone for the past few days but absolutely have not been for the past year or so. realize that many ppl def go into intense group think while constantly participating in social apps and also their takes are rlly intensified as well. definitely is good to take a step back and breathe and unironically reconnect w irl surroundings. i notice a huge difference in myself from the time ive taken away
I agree we’re all online way too much, but group thinking isn’t new. It was just confined to certain communication zones. Instead of social media, people used newspaper, tv, and gossip to stay on the same page. I think it’s just a social/human trait to gravitate to similar beliefs/behaviors. Social media just made it larger/more visible
yeah i agree. everything ofc has always had this like divide. but obviously it’s even worse when you can connect everyone globally and put some of the more extreme views at the forefront for ppl to follow. and once it becomes mainstream it almost becomes like an obligation many feel to adopt those views. very unhealthy. very unfortunate. very afraid for our future
it’s not new. but it is in a way more extreme but in our more progressive society ykwim? like obviously racism was worse let’s say in the 1940s bc it was exhibited more physically and laws were in place to highly restrict more rights and it was more likely to find ppl w racist views. but at the same time w modern tech there’s not as much nuance and there’s more of a following of the extreme sides of things bc it’s easier to connect more ppl to it. it’s easier for us to interact w our gov which
is great but also concerning bc that gov adopts modern culture in their ads and propaganda even if more hidden too. it makes it this whole showcase for the world to see and makes it almost like this entertainment game instead of something that is the lives of humans even if ppl are activists online who care abt lives. it’s still almost this game now. creates more intense feelings of winning/losing something aka all the election fraud accusations being more mainstream than before. it’s not worse
in the way that like this is the first time ever humans have behaved in groupthink and extreme views and harmful behaviors. it’s worse in the way that everything is so interconnected on a space that is connected to our reality but at the same time very disconnected. makes us lose focus on matters such as petty debates that get more attention than let’s say a possible new harmful policy. and we have no time to get more done bc everything is so different each day that ppl can’t keep track. done😭
