I love cooking with black bear meat (steak, fajitas, burger, etc) and while one meat locker in the area 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 sell it in-season, it’s far more cost effective to get the tags (if ya can, kinda a lottery) and do it yourself. Plus it also means I get the pelts which some people in the area buy. I’d never hunt just for sport, especially not for bears.
