It’s not just about the toilet. Tampons (and any other non human waste, non toilet paper) clog sewer systems and waste treatment facilities. The added costs to maintain them gets passed on to our water/sewer bills or taxes. Please stop flushing tampons.

When I put in my first tampon I wasn’t given out out the box because i borrowed from other people (my period loves pool parties) I didn’t get a box until years later when my mom got a bunch from work so I didn’t feel like I needed to read it. I didn’t know you couldn’t flush them until my family took a camping trip and my mom handed me a Walmart bag and said “put your tampons in this and hide it under the sink”

My mom isn’t someone I go to for advice so I never asked her questions an would go based off of the things I would hear in passing. Like I said when someone doesn’t know something it’s not because they purposely ignored information. It’s best to just kindly educate them. Especially considering that it’s a well known fact girls aren’t properly educated on their own bodies

Like I said I was at a pool party and would end up having my period that morning. I didn’t like tampons so I never asked to have them. Mom never bought them. I would ask a female family member and they would hand me one

look man i’ve used menstrual discs etc before. i’m not beefing with period blood and i don’t think it’s dirty in the way that shit is. Wrong. Uterine lining is tissue, not blood. When the endometrium sheds, the blood vessels that fed it are exposed. THAT is where the blood is coming from. It’s fresh blood. The reason periods last days is because the endometrium sheds in pieces, slowly exposing different blood vessels. We would be risking sepsis if the blood was taking days to make its way out after existing the circulatory system.
