I don’t think they’re comparable… kid has to be forced into the real world after having a doting home life vs someone who always hears no and always expects a no, therefore does not ask for anything even if they need it. They’re different things entirely.

You feel worthless now whereas we’ve felt worthless the entire time, including pivotal years for our brain development. There’s also a difference between neutrality and abject rejection. Too much praise hurt your ability to self-motivate and neutrality would’ve been better, but rejection absolutely would’ve been worse.
