the premise is that the uniformity of white women in dress and behavior is directly tied to the perception of women of all races and how particularly women of color, but also white women who step out of that uniformity experience misogyny, racism, and abuse at higher levels. but framed in a sociological and historiographical lens. so i’m doing research on origins of uniformity going back to the 17th century and tracking dialogue about “unruly” women in publications up to modern day.
yesss. and elaborating on how proper gender performance is automatically failed for anyone outside of the platformed norm and eurocentric beauty standards that many sorority girls unintentionally represent! theres a lot of material lol but i have 20 pages to parse it out eloquently and i’m really excited! i think it’ll be a great study and very relevant to the moment.
yes! there’s a reason why they all tend to look the same. idk if it would be relevant to the route you want to take in your paper but i recently read the essay “There is no safety in being Beautiful: reflections from a life spent On Display (™)” by ismatu gwendolyn. it reflects on several essays and talks a lot about beauty, the consequences of being beautiful and not being beautiful, how beauty is upheld, and beauty as a tool of whiteness. your thesis reminded me of it!
