It is done to conform to the same beauty standards that have been used to shame and oppress women. I don’t think it’s wrong for women to do, because they have been taught it’s what should be considered beautiful. But I don’t think it should be viewed as empowerment. It’s just further reinforcing those unrealistic beauty standards.
That is true, and I suppose there could be exceptions to it. But the majority of people who get these procedures get things like a smaller nose, because they’ve been told their large nose is ugly their whole life. Again, not their fault for feeling that way. But it doesn’t change the fact that they’re being pushed to conform to an unrealistic standard for themselves.
OR it could just be that that’s their preference? They think a slimmer nose is cuter, so they do it, oh well. Doesn’t harm me at all what someone else does to their body, they’re the only one that has to live with it. I choose to give a benefit of the doubt that they are doing it for themselves and not for others.
I guess I don’t understand how, if you choose to do something for YOU and the benefit of YOURSELF then that’s feminism to me, as long as it is t having a negative effect on others* You wanna be a Dr and never marry? Cool. Feminist. You wanna be a trophy wife? Cool. Feminist. You wanna be a traditional stay at home mom who lives on a farm? Cool. Feminist. Key words are doing what YOU WANT and what makes YOU happy. As I said as long as it doesn’t negatively impact others and heightens your life
Sure, that still doesn’t mean it’s feminist. It can be a valid choice and not do anything to challenge oppressive forces against women. That’s what feminism is really about. And it is why I dislike the concept of choice feminism, which I think you should look into further to see how it can be problematic.
